TripleRoute Practicum
What Practicum does, and what it does not.
Practicum keeps a school’s record of its students’ field hours, signed each week by the site and by the school. It is a record, not a gradebook and not a placement service.
What it does not do
- It does not find or assign placements
- The school decides where a student goes and records it. Practicum does not match students with sites.
- It does not grade
- An evaluation is the supervisor’s recorded view. Credit, grades and whether a placement is passed remain the school’s decision in its own systems.
- It does not connect to a student information system
- Students and staff are invited by email. There is no automatic link to a registrar’s system.
- It does not hold client records
- A student’s log describes kinds of activity and hours. It must not name or describe a client.
- It does not decide what an accreditor or a licensing board accepts
- It records the hours and who signed them. Whether they meet a program’s or a board’s requirement is for the school and the board.
What it does
- Keeps each student’s hours, week by week
- A student logs the week and sends it. The site supervisor signs it or sends an entry back; the faculty supervisor signs after them.
- Shows the school who is waiting on whom
- A coordinator sees every cohort: who is placed, whose weeks are unsigned, and for how long.
- Holds evaluations, site visits and concerns with the placement
- Each is recorded against the placement it belongs to, with who wrote it and when.
- Keeps a site’s agreement and insurance certificate on file
- So that a missing one is visible before a student starts.
- Gives the student a record to carry forward
- At the end of a placement the student has a signed record, and can continue into TripleRoute Supervision with the same account.
- Lets a school take its data out
- A school can export its records at any time.
Who decides
The school decides whether a placement is complete. Practicum records what was logged and who signed it.
