- Colorado counts professional development hours (PDH) in a learning plan: complete the Professional Practice Survey, write the plan, then earn the hours in it before you renew.
- No more than 20 hours in any one kind of activity (coursework, group learning, independent learning, presenting, mentoring or supervision, volunteer service) count in a cycle.
- Up to 5 hours beyond the 40 carry into the next cycle if earned within three months of the license expiring.
- A license issued during a cycle needs 1.66 hours for each month it is held, through the month it expires.
- Keep the documentation for five years after the cycle; audits happen after a renewal period ends.
- A registered marriage and family therapist candidate completes 60 hours at the second and every later renewal.
